Rock Formations Inc. was started in 1979 as a company specializing in artificial rock construction. Most artificial rockwork at that time was for zoos and occasionally a resort hotel. Rock Formations pioneered many of the techniques and styles used to bring artificial rock into the swimming pool industry. The use of natural rock is difficult in pool construction and artificial rock proved to be better structurally. In addition, waterslides, caves and entire swimming pools of artificial rock proved to be very popular.

Rock Formations won numerous design awards in the 1980's and 1990's, both locally and nationally, from the National Spa & Pool Institute. We have been honored with numerous cover photos from Pool Spa News and other trade magazines. In May of this year Home and Garden TV (HGTV) featured an installation of a RicoRock waterfall. Also in May, FOX TV aired a 2 hour special "The Making of a Playboy Centerfold" that was shot on location at a major pool remodel at the Playboy Mansion that was designed and built by Rock Formations Inc.

In 1982 Rock Formations built the rockwork for Raging Waters, a waterpark near Los Angeles. In the 1980s we built major rockwork for several other waterparks nationally including Heritage USA, the ill-fated venture of Jim and Tammy Bakker. Rock Formations has built themed rockwork for Disneyland, Knotts' Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain. One of the largest projects we worked on as consultants was the Leo Foo Theme Park near Taipei, Taiwan. In recent years Rock Formations has built water features for resort hotels in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico and for the Radisson Aruba.

For the past twenty years Rock Formations Inc. has built hundreds of custom commercial and residential projects, mostly in Southern California. We have built all types of naturalistic water features from streams to lakes and we are proficient with both "sculptured concrete" type artificial rockwork and more detailed "cast" rockwork.
